Abbiamo tutti bisogno di prendere sul serio la proposta dell’Avvento, perché si presenta come un itinerario di liberazione: «Risollevatevi e alzate il capo, perché la vostra liberazione è vicina (Lc 21, 28)».
La parola di Dio di questa prima domenica si assume il compito di ridestarci, di invitarci a sollevare lo sguardo. Prigionieri del momento, procediamo spesso a testa bassa, concentrati nei nostri problemi, nelle nostre difficoltà.
C’è una promessa di bene da parte di Dio che siamo chiamati ad accogliere. E per farlo occorre che abbandoniamo la logica del bisogno per entrare in quella del desiderio. Il bisogno non sopporta la prova del tempo e della distanza, e quindi dell’attesa e della ricerca.
La fede, invece, è percorsa dal desiderio che accetta la presenza, ma anche l’assenza di Dio, la sua vicinanza e la sua diversità. Egli è il «Dio con noi», ma anche il «Totalmente Altro», Colui che ci viene incontro per amore, ma resta sovranamente libero e non si lascia imprigionare dai nostri pregiudizi, né si lascia appiccicare le maschere che gli abbiamo costruito.
Ecco perché siamo chiamati in questo tempo forte dell’Avvento alla vigilanza: per scorgere le tracce di Dio nella storia, per leggere e riconoscere «i segni dei tempi», per interpretare quello che sta accadendo oggi nella prospettiva del mondo nuovo che Dio ci promette.
Non possiamo nasconderlo: viviamo in una situazione di angustia e di forte preoccupazione. Ci troviamo dentro una crisi culturale, sociale, economica e religiosa assai più ampia di ogni previsione e non possiamo abbandonare coloro che ne stanno subendo più direttamente le conseguenze.
I problemi del nostro tempo, dunque, ci obbligano a diventare «cristiani maggiorenni» che esercitano la loro responsabilità di credenti in modo fiducioso e coraggioso, nella certezza che Dio rimane accanto a tutti coloro che rischiano per il suo progetto di amore.
Vigilanza significa allora vegliare sul proprio cuore e sui propri atteggiamenti perché non si insinuino la cattiveria e l’egoismo, l’arroganza e lo spirito di rivalsa, la rassegnazione e la sfiducia.
Con questi propositi auguriamo a tutti un cammino fecondo di Avvento!
